Media Arts and Communication Major with a Passion for Mental Health & Wellness with Special Interest in Childhood Trauma

I am a Media Arts and Communication major with a passion for mental health and wellness. Throughout life people are in some way always dealing with trauma. Some are able to address it; while others can't or feel as though they are unable to. Trauma follows you no matter where you go but being able to manage it and work through it is so important. I hope I can be a source of strength or a helping hand through my work on this site.

I will challenge you to ask yourself questions about your mental health:

What is helping you get through some of your hardest days/moments? Who is there to help you, when life is struggling?

What are some ways you are taking care of your mental health on the daily?

What are some mantras you say to yourself to help increase positivity in your growth as a human?

On this site you will find firsthand interviews from people in my life that are very close to me; mentors that have come into my life that I aspire to be like and seek guidance from. These are people that are also teaching me about trauma and how to truly heal.

Each week I will have mental health pieces that give insights into my opinions and give inside scoops about my mental health. I will show firsthand how mental health continues to impact my daily life and way of thinking. As time goes on I will be updating the page with healthy recipes and update on ones that I have altered to make them health friendly. Fitness journey updates will come within time, as well as other work that I have produced within the writing scope. Nutrition, fitness & writing was always my healthy outlet during some very dark times in my life and these three things continue to help give me purpose.

I will include my email where viewers of the page can chime in and message me with any questions they may have or if they ever want to do an interview with me that deals with mental health and wellness.

Can't wait to take this journey with you!

Guest Interviews:

Guest Interviewee: Greg Gleason
Greg sat down with me, for an interview going into the depths of his life story, and what brought him to where he is today. Greg gave us insight into the struggles that has had great influence on how he has conducted himself and the hard decisions that have had lifelong consequences. Some of those topics were conversations about childhood trauma, addictions, spiritual, and personal goals, relationships, family life, and insights into how managing  our mental health has to be one of the biggest priorities each and every day.
Take a listen to the words of wisdom, inspiring advice and guidance of someone who truly is incredible.

If I could leave one piece of advice for Greg it would
be to never stop believing in the things you have put on hold to do the hard work. I know at some point you will have it all. Thank you for being such a guiding light, and influence in my own trauma, and mental health healing journey.

Guests Interviews:

Guest Interviewee: Cristian (Chino) Lau

Chino agreed to do an interview that gave insight into his experiences and how that has related to his mental health. Chino gave some inspiration and words of encouragement to people that could be struggling through hard times. His faith in God and how it has grounded him and his family through some really dark times. Which is inspiring and uplifting to say the least. The conversation also went in-depth on his experiences with trauma. The amount of dedication he has and continues to put into helping people with their trauma is inspirational. Chino is a proud family man and how they have supported him along the way through his own battles and struggles. He finds happiness in things that most people consider small but, understands the weight of these moments in life. Like teaching his daughter to box, and how that seems to positively impact him and his family's mental health.

If I could leave Chino with one piece of advice it would be to keep shooting for the stars, keep taking chances, and never backdown in what you believe in. You and your family deserve everything beautiful that comes up in the path you are living. Keep enjoying all the small moments and understand that so many people including myself find inspiration through you and respect you for all the hard work you have done for others and for yourself.

Guest Interviews:

Guest Interviewee: Brandon Townsend
My marriage has been the cornerstone of my life. It's the one beautiful thing that has kept me from completely disappearing into the depth of my own trauma and pain.
My husband was able to sit down with me for an interview. This interview dove deep into the complex relationships in our individual lives and that have had significant impact on our marriage. We dove deep into the pain that has broken our mental health down, dragging us to the very bottom. My husband is very raw with his emotions throughout the interview. He discusses with me the relationships that he has felt in many ways has been a struggle to talk about. He comes from a family that doesn't talk about their feelings and so seeing him be brave is a reason for someone else to believe that sometimes it's okay to not have it altogether. To end our session, I took the time to thank one person that I have seen treat my marriage with the utmost respect on his side, and for being such a good father. I felt it was an appropriate time because of our specific circumstances and it's never too late to say something that deserves being thanked for. I can only hope you are as proud of Brandon as I have come to be over the years.

If I could give one piece of advice to my lovely husband, the person who saved me in so many ways is to, never forget you are worth being loved. It is okay to be hurt by relationships and still love them with everything you have, but sometimes you have to take care of yourself. I think it's worth mentioning that I respect everything you are and your honesty toward life. Thank you for holding all the faith during this uncertain time in our lives. You truly are a saint.

Guest Interviews:

Guest Interviewee: Desere Baker
Desere Baker sat down with me for an interview, and went in-depth on her passion for the field she works in. I realized that what she enjoyed from the beginning was something that came back full circle for her. She always found her way back to what she loved doing most which has not had any negative effect on her that so many jobs can have. She talks with me about the emotions and the uphill battle that can be a strain on her when it comes to trusting people due to multiple things that have brought her pain and suffering.  She added a truly inspiring woman into our interview who she really believed was one of the few that has been with her for as long as she could remember. Her grandmother who passed away a few years ago, was a devastating loss. She expresses the respect she had for her grandmother, and how she was a very kind woman, but something that I hope viewers of the page will take from this is that she never stopped trying to understand her granddaughter when it came to her sexuality. She never cut her off, or refused to be set in her ways and it's something that we can only hope that the people we love will at least respect and love us through our choices & things we go through in life, even if they can't understand it.

If I could leave one piece of advice for Desere, I would say that nothing is ever too late. Especially if you want it that much. You deserve to be happy in every section of your life. Thank you for your constant inspiration, and support for my trauma healing journey as well.

Guest Interviews:

Guest Interviewee:  Katie Miller
Katie completed a written interview on her struggles throughout time with her mental health. She is in the field of helping people through emotional coaching. She has gone through her fair share of trauma, and she poured it all into helping people with theirs. She brings light to the people she helps and continues to have dreams about expanding her practice to do even more work for her clients. She talks about the way she believes people would communicate if this was a perfect world, and how she believes "clear is kind". What an inspiring thing to think and wish for more good on the world. She prioritizes her mental health with simple things but also incredibly impactful breathing exercises, and having faith in the journey.

If I could leave one piece of advice to Katie, it's to never stop seeing the kindness that this world has the potential to be. You are in the business for helping people, but I can only hope you will continue to prioritize yourself and things you need to do to keep your mental health intact. Thank you for being such an amazing person that has an absolute heart of gold.
